Wilkin says Saints must stay with the chasing pack

But, having ended their recent poor run with back-to-back victories, Wilkin is looking for Saints to put together a strong run in a late bid to make it. Saints face two away games in four days as they look to make up ground on the teams above them.

Saturday’s trip to Curzon Ashton is followed by Tuesday’s twice rearranged game at AFC Telford United.

Wilkin said: “We know it’s going to be a really tough ask to make the play-offs because there are five or six teams after that one remaining spot, as I can’t see the teams above fifth place slipping up. But we’ve got to keep going and hope we can still be in with a chance by the time we play FC Halifax.”

Looking back on Tuesday’s victory over Kidderminster Harriers, Wilkin added: “It was a great response by the players after Saturday’s FA Trophy defeat. We deserved a replay but we didn’t have that little bit of luck you need on the day.

“Having our cup-tied players back on Tuesday helped and it was good to see Shane Byrne back after suspension. I couldn’t see a goal coming but David [Moyo] has come on and done it for us.”
