Wilkin remains upbeat despite latest setback

Despite seeing his side go down by the odd goal in five against Nuneaton Town, Brackley Town boss Kevin Wilkin remains upbeat.

Two excellent second half finishes by Elliott Whitehouse edged Saturday’s National League North game for the visitors when Saints’ performance deserved better.

Matt Lowe had given Saints the early lead but Shane Byrne equalised before halftime and Whitehouse put Nuneaton ahead after the restart. Saints equalised through Richard Batchelor but Whitehouse won it.

Wilkin said; “We played well, especially second half. The game opened up and we had chances but couldn’t take them. We got a great start, they got back at us but we got to grips with it and an individual error has cost us.”

Looking ahead, Wilkin refused to be anything other than optimistic about the remaining 12 games.

He added: “We need to improve results clearly but we are competitive, we are playing well and are improving. The atmosphere in the dressing room is still lively and positive.

“My players are ready to have a go and work very hard for each other. There is a good spirit here and we believe if we keep working hard and keep improving we can get out of this.”
