Saints head to Alfreton Town on Saturday looking for three more points to stay in touch with the pacesetters in Vanarama National League North.

Having seen his side go nap against Blyth Spartans last weekend, Wilkin will want to see Saints finish the season strongly. They only trail third-placed Boston United by a solitary point but have played one game more than the Lincolnshire outfit and are locked on 57 points with Altrincham.

Wilkin said: “The table is tight and the top two haven’t really pulled away but we’re running out of games to catch them. The three points were very welcome against Blyth Spartans and if we can build on that at Alfreton then we’ve got a good chance of getting that third spot.”

Luke Fairlamb will remain on-loan at Banbury United till the end of the season and Wilkin said there may be opportunities for other players to do the same.

Glenn Walker should be back following the broken nose he sustained at Chester and Wilkin is hopeful Carl Baker should be fit to return following a hamstring strain.

He said: “We’ve got players who need game time and I’m conscious of that, so it wouldn’t do them any harm to go elsewhere to get some games. But you have to balance that up with making sure you can still put a decent squad together for the run-in of games and that players who go on-loan get regular football.

“Everything has to be right for the club and the players concerned, and if it enables us to bring in any other players.”
