Saints’ nine-match unbeaten Vanarama National League North run came to an end in Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at Boston United who made it seven home wins from ten outings.

Dominic Knowles scored the late winner as the Pilgrims resisted Town’s attacking threat throughout the 90 minutes to steal the points.

Wilkin said: “We did everything but score and, going into the closing stages of any game, you know at the back of your mind there is always the possibility of conceding a late goal. It was a very disappointing result but I’ve no gripes about the performance.

“We were very good throughout the game and, apart from the late goal and an early chance, Boston didn’t threaten us. Their keeper has had an excellent game and kept them in it but it was frustrating not to take any of the chances we created. If you don’t take your opportunities you know what can happen and it did.

“The players showed great application and there won’t be much to work on in training this week. We’re still third but the table only matters at the end of the season, we’ve just got to keep putting points on the board.”
