Saints drew 1-1 with Chorley in Saturday’s Vanarama National League North clash at St James Park. Glenn Walker gave Saints the first half lead but an own goal from Richard Batchelor gifted Chorley a second half point.

Saints remain outside the drop zone on goal difference ahead of Tuesday’s crucial clash with AFC Telford at St James Park.

Wilkin said: “We did very well in the first half, got into some good areas and moved the ball well.

“Chorley have taken a bit of chance in the second half, pushed another player up and the game became very open. They could afford to take chances but we should have seen the game out and taken all three points.

“We stopped passing the ball into the right areas in the second half and invited pressure on to ourselves. We didn’t keep the ball well enough and you can’t afford to keep conceding possession to a team that presses so high up the pitch.

“We didn’t control the game as well as we did in the first half and to concede like we did was very disappointing because Sam Hornby hasn’t had any saves to make. A couple of mistakes have led to the equaliser, if Sam [Hornby] had caught the ball there would have ben no corner but then we didn’t defend from the restart.”
