Saints travel to in-form FC Halifax Town for Saturday’s Vanarama National League North on the back of another three points.

Halifax chalked up their seventh straight win on Tuesday and Wilkin said: “The players are doing okay but now we need to try and get into those play-off positions.

“Halifax are on a great run with seven wins on the spin so we could be going there at the wrong time but is there ever a good time to go there?

“They are a strong side but we’ve proved we can cope with things on our travels this season.”

Looking back on Saturday’s victory over Curzon Ashton, Wilkin added: “I’m pleased with the win as Curzon have been on a good run and we need to stay up with the top teams especially as we miss games through the FA Cup run.

“It was important we took our chance to get this home win. We moved the ball well, created good chances and kept a clean sheet.

“We should have been ahead at the break and apart, from the early save by Laurie Walker, they didn’t really trouble us and I felt we were good value for the three points.”
