Thierry Audel had recently returned from northern Italy leading up to the Vanarama National League North game, which Saints won 4-2, and Wilkin had to make a big call.

Even though the central defender didn't show any symptoms of coronavirus, Wilkiin said: “It was a real dilemma for me, but I have to look at the bigger picture and consider other people’s families. Thierry [Audel] would always be in our best side but we had to make a late decision and, after taking advice from several people at the club, we decided we couldn’t take the risk.

“Thierry hasn’t been ill but he came back from Italy and, as much as he wanted to play on Saturday, we had to tell him we couldn’t take the chance. We could have called the game off in the circumstances but obviously I’m glad it went ahead with the performance and the result. The players were excellent, apart from the last couple of minutes."
