Easington Sports knocked Thame United out of the Oxon Senior Cup in Saturday’s 5-2 third round victory over the UHLSport Hellenic League premier division high fliers.
Sports got off to a flyer at Addison Road taking an early 2-0 lead. Connor Grant smashed home an unstoppable tenth minute half-volley from the edge of the box and Andrew Stidder doubled their advantage six minutes later, heading home after the ball was whipped back in following a corner.
Steve Howkins and Pete Moulder completely dominated up front and only some smart saves from Josh Cockerill kept Thame in the tie, tipping one shot around the post and then thwarting Howkins after he was put clean through.
Sports had a penalty appeal turned down and Carl Standen had an effort ruled out although it looked as though the ball had crossed the line. Against the run of play, Thame reduced the arrears in the 26th minute Ollie Lynch crossed for Ellis Hercules to head home.
Thame equalised ten minutes after the restart when Adam Morris and Alex Kedzierski combined for Dan West to score. But Sports regained the lead two minutes later when Craig Pearman headed home via the underside of the bar.
Pearman then put Howkins away in the 63rd minute and he out sprinted the Thame back line to lob the ball over the stranded Cockerill. Howkins rounded it off in the 74th minute before Darren Booker saved a penalty from West.
