A second-half penalty from Town’s leading scorer gave them a 1-0 victory over Chasetown on Tuesday, moving them up to 13th in the Division One South table.

The former Belper Town winger also bagged a brace in Saturday’s 3-2 victory at Newcastle Town.

Daventry created the first clear opportunity of Tuesday’s game, Shariff providing James Tricks with a perfectly executed through ball but the striker lost control when clean through on goal when he should really have tested keeper John Bateman.

There were very few other chances in the opening 45 minutes, Lewis Rankin having the Scholars’ best effort minutes before the break but he hit his shot straight at keeper Ben Heath.

The winning goal came in the 71st minute when Shariff converted from the penalty spot after Kieran Fitzgerald was adjudged to have been hauled down in the area by Scholars captain Chris Slater.

Looking back on Town’s last two performances, assistant manager Neil Champelovier said: “We changed the starting formation which has made us more compact and harder to break down.

“We also demanded the team works much harder and adopt a tougher attitude. Our last two performances have deserved the victories.”
