Ardley United completed their UHLSport Helelnic League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Highworth Town on Tuesday thanks to a solitary goal from Kieran Scott.
In Tuesday’s premier division fixture the visitors dominated the first half as Ardley struggled to gain any meaningful possession but goal mouth action was at a premium.
Ryan King and Terry Bohane both had shots from the edge of the area but both drove the ball over the bar.
Despite having the majority of possession in the first half, Highworth were unable to trouble keeper Jack Harding until just before the break. A corner kick was not cleared, resulting in a goalmouth scramble which saw Harding making a point blank save from a header which was then cleared to safety.
As often happens, the home side came out for the second half in a different frame of mind and proceeded to dominate in a way that they had not been able to do in the first 45 minutes.
Ten minutes after the restart, Kevin Brock’s side scored what would prove to be the winning goal. Luke Ingram could not get a shot in but Conor Ingram managed to slip the ball to the right hand edge where the unmarked Scott drove it across keeper Gary Stevens and into the far corner of the net.
Ardley continued to enjoy most of the possession for the rest of the game and although neither keeper was called upon to make any serious saves, it was a highly entertaining match with little to choose between the sides.
