Saints out to repeat their feat in the cup
Brackley Town players, officials and supporters will be hoping history can repeat itself on Saturday.
In-form Saints head to Gillingham for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup first round tie looking to cause another upset.
Three years ago, Saints drew at the KRBS Priestfield Stadium before going on to beat Gillingham, then managed by former England boss Peter Taylor, 1-0 in the replay thanks to Glenn Walker’s first half goal.
And last season, Kevin Wilkin’s side fought back to draw 2-2 with Newport County to earn a replay with the Sky Bet League Two outfit.
Justin Edinburgh’s Gillingham have lost four of their last seven Sky Bet League One outings and are without a victory in any competition since September. They are one point outside the relegation zone.
But Wilkin said: “Things have to go our way on the day. Gillingham are two divisions above us but they are a pro club, training every day.
“They are on a poor run and will be under pressure to get a good result. I’ve known Justin [Edinburgh] for a long time and he will have them well organised.
“But if we play to the level I know we can, then we could get a result. All I want is for us to produce a good performance, it’s a good ground and an excellent surface.”
New signing Lee Cox will be available for Saturday’s cup tie.
The former Plymouth Argyle, Swindon Town and Oxford United midfielder has been training with Saints this week and will be in the squad.
