Banbury United manager Mike Ford knows his side will have to step it up against Brackley Town in tonight’s (Tuesday) pre-season friendly.

The Puritans entertain the Vanarama National League outfit on the back of Saturday’s 2-1 success at Easington Sports in the Ron Thomas Memorial Cup.

I’m not going to pick players who aren’t fit or who don’t train

Puritans boss Mike Ford

Ford said: “There were lots of positives from Saturday but we’re a little bit in between at the moment.

“It’s a bit frustrating, we’re not seeing games out at the moment. We’ve got to play friendly games as though they are the first game of the new season.

“We should have beaten Coventry Sphinx and we should have won more comfortably against Easington Sports. That could be down to a bit of ring rustiness but it will come.

“Some players are ahead of others but I can only pick players for August 6 on what I see between now and then. I’m not going to pick players who aren’t fit or who don’t train, I’m keen to get all my players back soon.”

Meanwhile Ford confirmed that Shepherd Murombedzie will not be playing for the club next season and that Darren Pond has signed for Leamington.
