The Puritans boss knows his side has come up short scoring goals and he’s looking for someone to take responsibility in that department.

United entertain Stourbridge in Saturday’s BetVictor Southern League clash and Ford knows what to expect from the Glassboys.

He said: “Stourbridge are always up there, they’ve had some great FA Cup runs. They’re usually in the top five every season but never managed to get over the line to be promoted.

“We did well against them last season and again earlier this season, so they hold no fears for us. We need a victory to kick-start our season but first of all we need some goals.”

With Luke Fairlamb joining the club on a month’s loan from Brackley Town, Ford says there are no excuses for his side not to start finding the back of the net again.

He said: “Players have certain jobs in the team and if you’re a forward, including wide players, part of the job description is to score goals but we’ve simply not scored enough goals. At some point, they’ve got to start doing that because we’re creating enough chances and we need someone to take responsibility for that.

“I can’t wait to get going again on Saturday, especially now we’ve got all our defenders back and an attack with plenty of pace.

“I don’t see the squad changing much between now and the end of the season, we’ve got 13 games left and we need to do as well as we can. The chore of the squad is the same but injuries have cost us at important times against the better teams, which has been difficult.”
