Puritans hold on for a fine three points

Banbury United defend stoutly in second half to earn three points against league high-flyers Chippenham in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division.

The Puritans went in front in the 18th minute when Eddie Odhiambo put Conor McDonagh through on goal and he fired the ball past Darren Chitty in the Chippenham goal.

Chippenham responded well to going behind and were on top when Banbury got a second goal on 38 minutes.

A cross from the left by Marvin Martin led to a McDonagh shot being saved by Chitty only for the ball to hit a defender and go back behind the goal line for an own goal.

Chippenham came out positively for the second half and dominated the play. They pulled a goal back on 65 minutes when a corner from the right was headed home by Will Richards.

It was all Chippenham in the last 20 minutes but Banbury defended with commitment and competence and despite all the pressure that the visitors had they were prevented from creating clear opportunities by an excellent defensive display from United.
