Brackley Town ended a run of four straight Vanarama Conference North defeats by picking up a welcome point in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with North Ferriby United.

Both goals came in the first half at St James Park where Greg Kaziboni cancelled out Tom Denton’s opener after David Moyo has missed an early penalty.

Saints had the better of the first half against the FA Trophy finalists but the visitors were on top for long periods in the second half.

Saints began well and Owen Story, who rejoined the club in midweek, went close when he tested Jonathan Hedge from ten yards after controlling Kaziboni’s cross. But Saints squandered a glorious chance to take a ninth minute lead when Moyo was fouled by Russell Fry in the box and then saw his spot-kick turned away by Hedge.

Moyo almost made amends moments later but his header just went the wrong wide of the upright with Hedge scrambling across his line before the visitors took a 14th minute lead through top scorer Denton. Saints failed to fully clear a fee-kick and Adam Bolder returned the ball into the six-yard box where Ferriby’s giant striker headed home.

But Saints equalised eight minutes later when Kaziboni cut inside Sam Topliss and his low drive from the edge of the box went through a crowd of players and past the unsighted Hedge. Kaziboni almost repeated the feat within a minute when his fierce shot flashed past the far post with Hedge well beaten.

Both sides had chances midway through the half. Skipper Liam King broke through after racing on to Nathan Jarman’s pass but shot straight at Dean Snedker and moments later Story released Sam Whittall who beat Hedge but saw the ball go the wrong side of the post.

Whittall had another chance shortly afterwards but took too long to get his shot away after more good approach play from Kaziboni and just before the break King headed over from Bolder’s cross.

The visitors got on top after the restart. Bolder wasted a good opportunity before Snedker did well to foil Denton from close range and the keeper then kept out a decent effort from Jarman.

Saints had to play on the counter attack and rarely threatened Hedge who comfortably dealt with a weak shot from Moyo while Whittall fired over after good work again by Kaziboni on the left flank.

In between, Denton saw his goal bound header cleared off by Eddie Odhiambo from Bolder’s corner and Jarman fired wide.

Mayo missed a good opportunity when he raced on to Kaziboni’s pass, cut into the box before seeing his shot deflected on to the outside of the post by Matt Wilson. Substitute Ryan Kendall tested Snedker with a shot on the turn and Denton had a header saved by the Saints keeper who then dealt with King’s late effort.
