Home time is ideal chance to arrest the recent slide

The Puritans have three home premier division games leading up to Christmas now that the scheduled fixture Hayes & Yeading has been switched to the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium.

That comes in between Saturday’s clash with Stratford Town and struggling Cinderford Town, who came up with the Puritans. But manager Mike Ford is taking nothing for granted.

He said: “We want to secure our place in this division so until we reach our 50-point target we won’t look any further ahead.

“And that’s the same approach for the next three home games. They are games against teams who haven’t got the same budget as some of the bigger clubs in this division.

“But they will be just as tough so I’m only concentrating on the first one, Stratford Town on Saturday.”

Ford says there will be a change of approach for Saturday as he looks to get back to winning ways.

He said: “Top teams have got top strikers who get that vital goal in tight games. We’re not scoring at the moment but that’s not just down to the strikers, other players need to take more responsibility around the box.

“We play a lot of football in our own half but we need to be playing more of it in the opposition half. I just want us to concentrate on putting on a performance at home again.”
