They may not have gone up as champions but Banbury United’s style of football has won them many admirers this season.

Mike Ford’s determination to stick to the passing game, despite the opening day setback against Swindon Supermarine, has also been rewarded and that’s something which pleased the United boss.

He said: “We worked all of pre-season on trying to play from the back. It worked in the first half against Swindon on the opening day but we fell apart in the second half because some players went back to what they had been used to.

“I was told in the clubhouse afterwards that we couldn’t play football to get out of this division but I said we could. If you’ve got good enough players you can and the players have been brilliant.”
