Banbury United manager Mike Ford was relieved to get Tuesday’s Evo-Stik Southern League game with Bridgwater Town out of the way.

Ford feared there may be a hangover from Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Winchester City which took his side top of Division One South & West.

Ford said: “I don’t know where we’re going to finish but when I look back at the end of the season I will look at that as a big result. There was a lot of emotion after the game on Saturday’s our biggest crowd, the biggest in this division, a really good game of football and a great result for us.

“Bridgwater at home was an ideal fixture for us to have after Saturday’s win.

Now it’s back to work because as soon as you start resting on your laurels this game will bite you on the backside.

“I don’t think the result was ever in doubt but we made hard work of it. We needed to get Saturday out of our system and we did.

“We’ve overcome obstacles to get where we are and there will be others which we will need to overcome “I’m not surprised where are in the table now, once I had looked at our statistics before the North Leigh game I knew we had done well.”
