Despite seeing his side knocked off top spot, Banbury United boss Mike Ford feels the Evo-Stik Southern League title race is far from over.
Cinderford Town took over at the top of Division One South & West in midweek and have a one-point lead over the Puritans and a game in hand. But that game is a third-placed Taunton Town on Tuesday.
I still think there will be another twist before the final dayPuritans boss Mike Ford
United entertain Taunton, who are two points adrift, on the final day and that could be the biggest game for many years at Spencer Stadium. United could still be in with a chance of going up automatically or preserving second spot for the play-offs.
Ford said: “I still think there will be another twist before the final day and all three teams having something to play for.
“I don’t expect Cinderford to find it easy at Mangotsfield on Saturday and then they have to play Taunton on Tuesday. After that we will know what we have to do on the final day but we’ve got to make sure we win at Yate to be in contention.
“Cinderford have been favourites for two months but pressure can bring about strange results. It’s not easy to get over the line.
But my players deserve a lot of credit because we’ve kept winning games to keep up the pressure on Cinderford.”
