The Puritans produced an impressive performance to beat Evo-Stik League South premier division south leaders Weymouth 2-1. Amer Awadh and a Giorgio Rasulo penalty put United 2-0 up before Stephane Zubar grabbed a late consolation.

Ford said: “We sometimes disappoint in replays but that wasn’t disappointing and it was a job well done. My players produced a fantastic performance and we fully deserved the victory.”

United never let Weymouth threaten for any period and, despite having plenty of possession, the visitors could not make it count. That was down to United’s disciplined and well organised display which has been the backbone of their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Ford added: “We got the goal and I couldn’t see where they were going to find the equaliser from. Full credit to my team, we snuffed them out and Weymouth didn’t look like getting back in it.

“We were so difficult to break down because we were disciplined throughout and our attitude was excellent. Weymouth had a lot of the ball at times but never really looked like scoring and we always looked a threat on the break.”
