Banbury United manager Mike Ford admits the club needs to prove itself on the field if they are to attract better players to Spencer Stadium.
Ford has missed out on several established players who indicated they wanted to play for the Puritans but have then signed elsewhere while others have opted for a lower grade of football.
Ford said: “You can get frustrated by it or you can simply move on and get in players who want to be here.
“Initially, the recruitment had been encouraging with several players saying they wanted to come here but then signing for another club.
“Some players have taken the easy option to play at a lower level. I don’t mind trying once to convince players to come here but I’m not going to try and force them to, if they want to play elsewhere that’s up to them.
“At the moment Banbury United are not a viable proposition but if we can hit the ground running then I’m sure other players will then show more interest in coming here.
“We haven’t got the budget, if I had then I would have a more experienced team capable of winning more games from day one.
“We’re still going to be capable of winning games but it may take longer. I’ve been very encouraged by the group of players, they’ve responded really well to everything we’ve tried to do.”
