Banbury United manager Mike Ford could not have been happier after seeing his side chalk up their fourth straight Evo-Stik Southern League success.
The Puritans thumped Burnham 5-0 in Tuesday’s Division One South & West clash to go fourth and Ford said: “That was a huge banana skin because our performances of late have not been as good as they were earlier in the season. So to keep a clean sheet and win 5-0 is very pleasing.
I knew they would respond in the right wayPuritans boss Mike Ford
“It’s difficult for young players to be at it every week but I just thought we weren’t quite on our game in recent weeks. I know these players well and I knew they would respond in the right way.
“The sending-off obviously helped us but I thought we were defensively strong all game and allowed them very few shots, Jack Harding only had to make one very good save when it was 1-0. We closed Burnham down very quickly when they had the ball and when we had it we shifted it much quicker.”
Ricky Johnson completed a hat-trick but Ford picked out two-goal Duran Martin and Leam Howards for special praise.
He added: “Duran Martin is one of several good technicians we’ve got in the team. He’s still learning the game and there is no better way of doing that than playing in senior football each week. But Leam Howards had his best game, he never gave their defence a moment’s peace all night.”
