Tuesday’s 4-2 victory in the BetVictor Southern League owed much to United’s new-found threat in the final third with loanees Greg Kaziboni and Luke Fairlamb playing their part in scoring and providing goals alongside two-goal Ravi Shamsi.

Ford said: “They’re a side which has been winning a lot of games recently, particularly away, they are well coached but we looked a real threat all night. We had pace down both flanks, worked really hard and played some good football in midfield.

“We felt at halftime we didn’t take other chances to take in more than a one-goal lead. They had a lot of the ball, had good movement but didn’t trouble us that much.

“We were annoyed to let them get a goal back before the break so it was important to get that third goal early in the second half. The fourth goal killed them off, conceding one right at the end was disappointing but that should take nothing away from was a very good performance.

“In the first half we got stuck between pressing them or dropping off so in the second half we decided to let them have the ball which created space behind them to hit them on the break which we did really well.

“Even at home, sometimes you have to let the opposition have more of the ball. The players executed a good game plan, especially in the second half, we looked a threat all night and they couldn’t handle us.”
