Monday’s draw saw Saints paired against the Sky Bet League Two side for the tie which will take place early next month. Steve Diggin bagged a brace and Richard Batchelor grabbed the other goal as Saints beat Bamber Bridge 3-0 on Saturday to book their place in Monday’s draw.

Wilkin said: “All you can ask for is a home tie against a Football League club and that’s what we’ve got. Now we need to give a good account of ourselves.

“Newport haven’t started the season too well but they’ve picked up under John Sheridan recently. I’ve come up against them as a player and also when I was assistant at Nuneaton in their non-league days.

“But we’ve got an important league game at Chorley before then and we need to get a decent result on Saturday to take into the cup tie.”

Steve Diggin and Batchelor are suspended for Saturday’s Vanarama National League North trip to Chorley.
