It had looked as though Manny Duku may have played his last game for Banbury United after being hauled off against Cirencester Town. Manager Mike Ford was forthright in his criticism of Duke who was left in no doubt as to what was required to get a second chance to remain at the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium.

But Duku seems to have heeded Ford’s warning and responded with an impressive cameo performance at Chesham United on Saturday.

The former King’s Langley striker came off the bench to replace Conor McDonagh. He set up a couple of couple of goals and could have had got on the score sheet himself.

And that delighted Ford, who said: “As a manager, you try and get the best reaction from your players so what I said to Manny could apply to any of them.

“There are different ways to deal with different situations and I felt we needed to galvanise the squad following a poor display against Cirencester. Since that game we’ve produced two excellent performances and kept two clean sheets.

“It’s no coincidence that in our two good performances against a side like Chesham, Manny has produced two good displays from the bench.

“Fair play to Manny, he was a threat on Tuesday and, although he didn’t score, he helped us get across the line. Manny created two goals at Chesham as well as having a couple of chances himself.

“Conor McDonagh is working very hard and I got Manny just the right time.”
