Dexter denies Ardley as they lose more ground

Ardley United boss Kevin Brock saw his side lose more ground on the UHLSport Hellenic League leaders following Tuesday’s draw ay Holyport United.

An uninspiring game at the Summerleaze Ground in Maidenhead ended with the premier division points being shared in the 1-1 draw after Luke Dexter cancelled out Ricky Johnson’s first half opener.

Missing both central defenders, Brock had to play Johnson alongside Gavin Kidd and it was Holyport who created the first chance when Fred Tripp weaved his way through before shooting wide.

At the other end, Diego Petriaggi and Jon Gardner combined to set up Joe Eyre but his shot just cleared the bar. Ardley took the lead in the 22nd minute when a Callum Convey free-kick was headed home by Johnson.

The game became scrappy and the only real chance fell to Adam Paget but he could only shoot straight at keeper Jack Harding.

After the restart neither side managed to create any openings before the 78th minute when Paget crossed for Luke Dexter to head home. Both sides had a chance to seal the points late on with Ollie Stanbridge mis-kicking when clean through and Paget blasting over the bar when well placed.
