Banbury United boss Mike Ford felt Tuesday’s defeat at Taunton had been on the cards for some time.

And the United boss feels the excitement surrounding the Puritans going top of the Evo-Stik Southern League played a big part in his side’s recent displays.

Ever since the euphoria of beating Winchester we’ve struggled

Ford said: “That’s been coming for two or three games, ever since the euphoria of beating Winchester and going top we’ve struggled. We did against Bridgwater and also at Mangotsfield and that has cost us at Taunton.

“It’s not nice to lose 7-1 but it might be a blessing in disguise. We can’t do anything else but regroup and get ourselves ready for Saturday.

“There were lots of things which we didn’t well enough, their finishing was excellent, but we stood off them too far, we didn’t block enough shots.

“Their attacking players were too good for my defenders.”
