Ardley United travel to Abingdon United for Saturday’s premier division clash on the back of Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at Wootton Basett Town.
A goal in each half condemned a depleted Ardley side to their first premier division defeat in seven outings at Wootton Bassett where manager Kevin Brock was forced to pull on his boots to make up the numbers. Brock put himself in goal with regular keeper Jack Harding playing an outfield role, something that he normally only does on a Sunday morning!
Despite the unusual formation, Ardley largely dominated the game but were unable to convert any of the chances that they created with the elements at their backs. The home side scored in the 24th minute when Steve Robertson wrong-footed Brock to fire the ball home.
Ardley continued to press through the second period in spite of the elements but again could not convert possession into goals and the game was made safe for Wootton Bassett eight minutes from time when Dan Bailey lobbed Brock to seal the three points.
Ardley were reduced to ten men four minutes later when Gavin Kidd was shown a red card for a foot-up challenge to compound their misery.
