Banbury United make major contract announcement as Kelvin Langmead decision confirmed

Kelvin Langmead has committed his future to Banbury United, signing a new contract to remain Puritans manager until the end of next season.

The former Northampton Town and Shrewsbury Town defender recently concluded his first full campaign as a head coach, guiding Banbury to 12th place in the standings.

Progression was the ambition and there was certainly some growth under Langmead - albeit subtly - as the Puritans finished in the same position and with three more points than they did in 2024/25.

The latest season may be over on the field, but that doesn’t mean Langmead’s work has stopped, with plenty to consider as he sculpts his squad ahead of next term.

Banbury recently confirmed six players have been released as free agents and more are expected to be announced in the coming days and weeks, with individual discussions underway.

So far, three attackers and three defenders have left. Langmead, who will rarely be more than just a few inches away from his phone throughout this summer, will look to replace all those leaving.

The 41-year-old boss will also reflect on what has been a learning curve of a first year at the Spencer Stadium. The only way is up, he and the club hope.

On putting pen to paper, Langmead said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been given the opportunity to extend my stay as manager of this football club.

“From the moment I walked through the door I’ve had nothing but unwavering support from everybody involved.

“And I’m incredibly grateful to Wayne (Farrell) and the rest of the board for giving me the opportunity to further build on all of the hard work of last season.

“Over the last year I have seen firsthand how hard everybody works, how dedicated everyone is, and most importantly how much this football club means to people. And that will continue to be the driving force behind everything we do.

“We’re all very much in this together, and this gives us all a platform to continue to progress both on and off the pitch.

“Thank you once again for all your support this season, and I look forward to seeing you all soon.”
