Paul Davis will be looking for a positive response when Ardley United entertain Brimscombe & Thrupp in Saturday’s UHLSport Hellenic League clash.

Ardley suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat at title-chasing Kidlington in Tuesday’s premier division clash.

Perversely, the visitors could have taken the lead in the first minute when Ben Willoughby’s back pass was fumbled by keeper Sam Warrell, the ball rolling under his foot and hitting the post. Kidlington went close when Lewis Coyle drew a great save from Kieran Beesley but Ardley had chances on the break with new signing Elias Katasoloudi hitting the bar and Reece Bayliss twice failing to hit the target after breaking through.

At the other end, Eric Odihambo fired over before Kidlington went in front in the 28th minute when Ardley allowed Ryan Brooks to nip in to score. A minute later Bayliss wasted another chance before Tom Castle saw his shot turned around the post by Beesley.

Kidlington doubled their advantage in the 38th minute when Ardley failed to clear Castle’s cross and Coyle netted. On the stroke of halftime Coyle struck the post but when the ball came back into the box Odihambo was on hand to score.

Kidlington increased their lead in the 57th minute, Castle went on a run through the middle before slipping a pass to Coyle who wrong-footed Beesley. The fifth goal arrived when three Ardley defenders allowed Brooks to fire home.

Ardley reduced the arrears with ten minutes remaining when Bayliss ran on to Harry Brock’s long pass and slotted it home.
