Banbury United manager Mike Ford has warned his players that Tuesday’s game against Marlow is a sign of things to come.

The Puritans were pushed all the way by Marlow before sealing three late points and Ford says his players must get used to teams upping their game against his side.

We’re on a fantastic run but I thought it caught up with us on Tuesday

Ford said: “We’re on a fantastic run but I thought it caught up with us on Tuesday, especially after playing with ten men for so long on Saturday. That made it tough for us against Marlow so full credit for them to get the win, we wouldn’t have been able to that earlier in the season.

“They’re all good wins but that one was especially pleasing after playing the way we did for so long. Marlow were at us from the start and tried to stop us playing, we didn’t play as well as we can but we stuck at it and the winner was worthy of winning any game.

“I didn’t see us winning the game the way we were playing and I couldn’t see us playing any better unless we made changes.

“We made the changes at the right time and it got us the goal but we could have won by a bigger margin late on, we had the chances.

“Our second goal summed up how I want us to play, there are not many teams in this division that could pass their way out of defence, from left to right and into the box.”
