F1: Haas target 2016 debut from Banbury base

The new Formula 1 season gets under way next weekend in Australia with Mercedes AMG Petronas looking to retain their FIA constructors’ title.

World champion Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg will again be in the two Brackley cars.

Lotus will look to Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado to carry their encouraging testing runs into race competition for the Enstone team.

There will be no Banbury based team in this year’s campaign with the now-defunct Marussia outfit relocating to Sheffield under the Manor Racing banner.

But there will be a Banbury F1 team in the 2016 championship with Haas F1 operating out of Marussia’s former headquarters in the town.

The USA based team, owned by Gene Haas, purchased the factory in January and has started making the changes to it’s new European base in Banbury.
