Banbury beat Harefield by 35 runs in Saturday’s division one opener with Hugo Darby hitting an unbeaten 90 runs.

Having been inserted by the hosts, Banbury soon had the scoreboard ticking over with openers Darby and Craig Haupt giving the visitors a solid start. Banbury had reached 92 before Haupt departed with 45 runs under his belt, containing six fours and a six.

New signing Kurtis Patterson came to the crease and he and Darby took the score on to 136-2. Patterson made 36 runs on his debut while Darby stayed around till the end of the innings and helped Banbury to 234-6 in their 50 overs with Luke Ryan adding 18 runs.

In reply, Harefield’s top order all made useful contributions as they reached 114-3 before the wickets began to fall. Oliver Richards 57 kept Harefield in contention and a late flurry from Scott Thomas 27 gave them renewed hope but they could only reach 199-8 at the close.
