Banbury and Great Tew meet in Saturday’s pre-season friendly at Ledwell Road with both clubs looking for good performances ahead of the start of the Home Counties Premier Cricket League campaign.

Horspath are the visitors to White Post Road for next week’s opening division one fixture while Tew travel to Finchampstead for their division two opener.

Banbury bowed out of the Royal London Club Championship on Sunday, suffering a three wicket defeat in their first round tie at Market Harborough.

With six regulars on county duty, it was always going to be a tough test at Market Harborough where they opted to bat but were dismissed for 183 runs.

There was an encouraging innings from some of the club’s younger players. Will Briggs (43) led the way for the visitors and put on 63 runs for Banbury with Tom Bradbeer but Zain Mir (3-19) and Max Collins (3-30) always held the upper hand for the hosts.

In reply, Harborough paced their innings well with Joe Gordon (40), Fin Clarke (37) and Sam Williams (36) top scoring but they only got home with five balls to spare as Liam Manley and Brad Taylor picked up a couple of wickets apiece.

Lloyd Sabin showed some early season form with the bat when completing a double century for Oxford MCCU against Cardiff MCCU in The Parks. The Banbury batsman made 208 runs in Monday’s university fixture.
