Openers Harry Smith and Jordan Garrett paved the way for Great & Little Tew to earn a draw with Henley in the Home Counties Premier Cricket League.
Having been inserted by Henley, the Tew openers put on 176 runs for the first wicket in Saturday’s division one fixture at Ledwell Road.
Smith hit 83 runs and Garrett scored 90 to give their side a solid start. When Smith and Garrett departed, Dain Moreton 28 and Curtly Slatter 26 took Tew on to 226-4 before the hosts closed on 258-8.
In reply, Henley were never allowed to make a strong run chase as the Tew attack put the brakes on.
Wickets fell regularly before Michael Roberts 33 and Ziafat Ashraf took them on to 98-4. Tew kept chipping away with Joe Thomas taking 3-23 but Henley held on to claim a draw, closing on 168-7 with Euan Woods 44o standing firm.
