We didn’t deserve to win the league because we’ve simply not been good enough in the games that mattered

The White Post Road side were on the wrong end of a 147 run defeat in Saturday’s division one clash at Reading and Ryan will demand a much improved display in this weekend’s final fixture.

Banbury still have the Bernard Tollett Cup final later this month to look forward to but their lingering title hopes were extinguished at Reading.

Ryan said: “We played the game like it was already a dead rubbber which was very disappointing.

“We didn’t deserve to win the league because we’ve simply not been good enough in the games that mattered, losing twice to Henley and once against High Wycombe, which was the crucial one.

“Decisions didn’t go our way on the day but we just didn’t play well enough.

“Several players have got to take a look at themselves and come back stonger next year. Some people didn’t give us a chance this time but we’ve stayed in the title race a lot longer than in recent years.”
