It’s all change at Banbury Cricket Club where vice-captain Luke Ryan is taking over from outgoing skipper Jimmy Phillips.
Ryan will officially take over after this month’s AGM but the Home Counties Premier Cricket League club have lost two key players, batsman Nathan Hawkes and wicket keeper Jonny Cater.
Hawkes is joining High Wycombe while Cater is returning to Buckingham. Banbury have two replacements lined up, a batsman and a bowler, but they have yet to sign.
Phillips said: “I have enjoyed being captain thoroughly, it has been both a huge honour and a pleasure to work with such a fantastic group of players. I will never forget the efforts of all the lads particularly during our 2013 cup run.
“But our achievements in 2014 fell below both my targets and those of the squad and, with that in mind, I felt the time was right to hand over to Luke, particularly in light of his record breaking achievements in leading Oxfordshire to their first ever national One Day final last year.
“Having played under Luke I know how professional he is and he’s a great captain. I am, first and foremost, a servant of Banbury CC and look forward to supporting Luke as much as I can and contributing to the 2015 season as a player.”
