Great & Little Tew suffered a heavy defeat in their first fixture in the top division of the Home Counties Premier Cricket League.

The Ledwell Road club went down by 122 runs at Henley in Saturday’s division one fixture.

Skipper Andy Harris inserted the hosts and the visitors soon had Henley in trouble at 3-2 with Matt Woods accounting for openers Matt Rose and David Allaway. But Michael Roberts and Richard Morris turned things around and took Henley on to 125-3.

Roberts went for 52 but Morris was joined by Ziafat Ashraf at the crease and the pair accelerated the score along to 269-4. Morris made 134 runs, which included 15 fours and six sixes before he departed, Ashraf remained unbeaten on 84no Henley reached 308-6 at the close while Matt Woods picked up 4-45.

In reply, the visitors were soon in trouble at 36-3 and they never fully recovered as wickets began to fall at regular intervals. Only new overseas signing Dain Moreton 47 and Lloyd Brock 68 managed to make a decent score as Tew were dismissed for 186 runs in the 45th over.
