Captain Andy Harris paid tribute to openers Joe White and Matt Clark after they paved the way for Great & Little Tew to make it back-to-back wins in the Home Counties Premier Cricket League.

Tew travel to Amersham for Saturday’s division two fixture where Harris will be hoping White and Clark can maintain their excellent start to the campaign.

If Joe White and Matt Clark carry on doing that for the next 18 games I will be delighted!

The pair notched up a successive record breaking opening league partnerships for the club against Datchet.

He said: “If Joe and Matt can carry on doing that for the next 18 games I will be delighted!

“But we know there will come a time soon when that doesn’t happen and the other top order batsmen will need to show what they can do.

“Amersham beat us twice last year so we know it will be a tough fixture.

“But we’ve made a great start and confidence in the squad is high. I think this is going to be a very competitive division this year, two of the more fancied teams are at the bottom end and I didn’t expect them to be there.”

Tew moved into the next round of the Davidstow National Village Cup without a ball being bowled in anger on Sunday.

That was because Cropredy, who field three senior Saturday sides in the Cherwell League, gave the 2014 finalists a walkover.
