Great & Little Tew travel to lowly Aston Rowant for Saturday’s Home Counties Premier Cricket League fixture looking to get back to winning ways.
The division two leaders had to settle for a draw on Saturday at Ledwell Road where they were thwarted against Buckingham Town.
The visitors inserted Tew but, after losing Joe White 20, the hosts pushed on to 107-2 with fellow opener Jordan Garrett and Matt Clarke scoring patiently. Garrett made a 72 runs off 116 balls, including 13 fours, before he departed while Clarke produced 75 runs off 146 deliveries, which included seven fours.
The middle order failed to add significantly to Tew’s score but Harris 27 and Lloyd Brock 16 put on 65 runs for the sixth wicket. The hosts finished on 227-8 which would have been tempting for the visitors to chase.
But Joe Thomas and White made early inroads into the Buckingham top order before Jonny Cater came to his side’s rescue, hitting 62 runs off 80 balls, including six fours and a six, as he helped the visitors on to 156-5 before he was bowled by Thomas.
Once Cater had departed, Buckingham were content to bat out for a draw. White finished on 5-73 while Thomas picked up 3-53.
Tew still have a healthy advantage over Finchampstead who beat Cove to leap-frog Gerrards Cross, who slipped up against Shipton-under-Wychwood, into second place.
