Mike Tyson is returning to the ring - here’s when he’ll take on Roy Jones Jr

Mike Tyson has confirmed fellow former heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr as his opponent for his return to the ring at the age of 54.

Tyson, who dominated the heavyweight scene for almost 20 years after winning the title in 1987, will take on 51-year-old Jones in an eight-round exhibition in California.

Tyson announced the bout on Twitter, the first of his Legends Only League venture, with the words, "I. AM. BACK."

Jones last fought in 2018, while Tyson's last professional fight was a defeat by Kevin McBride 15 years ago.

When will the fight take place?

The two veterans will go head-to-head on 12 September 2020.

The duo will touch gloves at 9pm ET (1am GMT).

Where is the fight taking place?

The fight is set to take place at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

A price has not yet been set for the pay-per-view fight, but it is expected that the fight will be hosted on social media app, Triller.

Is there an undercard?

Yes. Just one fight on the undercard has been decided and it involves a certain YouTuber. 

Jake Paul is due to fight former NBA player, Nate Robinson.

What are the rules of the fight?

Following the announcement, California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster explained the rules which would be in place for the safety of the 50-something fighters.

Foster explained, "Tyson and Jones Jr won't be wearing headgear for the fight.

"They'll be lacing up 12-ounce gloves and there won't be any judges present at the fight to score the action.

"So, technically there won't be a winner unless a knockout somehow occurs. Or, either fighter is deemed unfit to continue."

He added, "They can move around and make some money, but I told them, ‘If you get cut, it's over.'”
