"Fanny" glass bottle of Irn Bru goes on sale for £1,700

An eBay seller is trying to flog a glass bottle of Irn Bru emblazoned with the word 'Fanny' for a whopping £1,700 after branding it a collector's item.

Surprisingly, a bid matching the asking price has already been made by a private user, with still four days to go for a chance to bag the bottle of ginger.

The seller, who appears to be based in Greenock, Inverclyde, has hyped the bottle as a "limited edition collector's item" following Barr's controversial new recipe change.

But pictures of the bottle on eBay show a best before date of June 2014.

On the eBay listing, they said: "This 750ml glass bottle is a limited edition collector's item promoting the 'fanny' campaign and TV advert.

"The bottle seal is intact and unopened, labels are in excellent condition.

"This bottle contains the original recipe and not the changed recipe that is in the shops from now on."

The limited-edition glass bottles, which went on sale in Scotland in 2013, were labelled Fanny, Senga, Rab or Tam.

The names followed on from Irn Bru's "Fanny" TV advert -- Barr's biggest online hit -- which saw people drinking Irn Bru in order to cope with embarrassing social situations.

It comes after others took to the auctioning website to sell packs of cans and bottles of 'original recipe' Irn Bru for up to £40.

The new version of Scotland's other national drink has half the original sugar content with artificial sweeteners added - making it just 65 calories in a can.

Irn Bru bosses have confirmed the sales of the full-sugar drink have now ended.
