These days, the supermarket lunch meal deal is an institution, and most shops compete with each other to offer the best value for money.

The main contenders all price their deals at around the £3 mark, including a sandwich or salad, a snack and a drink - but which supermarket offers the best savings?

We've crunched the numbers and ranked the cheapest supermarket meal deals in the country from best to worst below.

Morrisons - £3

Offering a wide variety of choice, Morrisons' £3 meal deal includes a sandwich, wrap, sushi or salad, as well as a snack (such as fruit or crisps) and a drink.

Due to the number of high priced options available - including expensive sushi, vegan wraps and exotic fruit juices - the Morrisons meal deal is by far the best value for money option on this list.

Tesco - £3

Also priced at £3, Tesco shoppers can select a sandwich, wrap or salad, along with a snack (including crisps, popcorn, chocolate or beef jerky) and a drink.

The range of snack options included in the deal here is much wider than at other supermarkets, and drink sizes are generous, with water bottles measuring up to one litre.

Maximum saving of £2.89

Sainsbury's - £3

Sainsbury's do not include sushi or premium sandwiches in their meal deal, but you can still pick up a sandwich, pasta or salad, a snack (fruit, vegetables or crisps) and a drink (up to 750ml in size) for £3.

Marks & Spencer - £3.50

Coming in at £3.50, Marks & Spencer's meal deal is the most expensive on this list, and only includes certain sandwiches - sushi and salads are completely off the table.

That being said, buying a sandwich, snack (crisps or popcorn) and a drink as part of the M&S meal deal will still save you more than £1, compared to buying each item separately.

Maximum saving of £1.35
