The Winter Gardens Revival returns

Banbury has always prided itself in rocking live music and during its heyday there was no place better than the Winter Gardens. Attracting such names as Deep Purple, Rod Stewart and Tom Jones the Winter Gardens was not just a popular Banbury venue but would attract people from far and wide.

That all changed in 1982 when the Winter Gardens closed its doors for the last time. The memories, however, remain and in the spirit of that beloved venue the Bringing Back the Winter Gardens charity was born.

Bob Dainty, who has been involved from the beginning explains; “2011 was the 50th of year of the live music scene in Banbury and we set up the charity. Since then we have raised between sixteen and seventeen thousand pounds of funds all for local charities.”

Saturday’s event will be raising money for the Katherine House Hospice and will feature four hours of live music by local bands covering a variety of musical genres.

Bob Dainty said; “These new bands never got to play at the Winter Gardens but they all wanted to be associated with it. Events like these give the youngsters a chance to experience what it was like.”

Til Dawn will start proceedings at 7.30pm and local punk favourites, The Duckworths will bring a close to the night. Tickets cost £10 and can be bought from the General Foods Social Club or call Bob Dainty on 01295 730677.
