The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms for much of the country, including the Banbury area from tomorrow (Wednesday June 16) to Saturday June 19.

Met Office forecasters say the thunderstorms could bring the risk of torrential downpours, lightning and heavy winds to the area.

Forecasters have also said there is a 'quite a bit of uncertainty' about the timing of the thunderstorms.

But some places are likely to see thunderstorms late Wednesday through to Friday with the potential for travel disruption and flooding.

Cooler weather will also be much welcomed from the predicted storms with temperatures expected to remain as high as 26C tomorrow (Wednesday June 16).

The forecasted storms and rain are expected to bring cooler temperatures to the area by later in the week. The Met Office forecasters call for a high of 19C on Thursday, 17C on Friday and 19C again on Saturday.
