Weather fails to dampen spirits at Banbury Show

Thousands of people braved the weather to enjoy an action-packed Banbury and District Show.

The event on Sunday welcomed the Xtreme Stunt Team, the Coventry Drum Corps and the Banbury Cross Flyball Club who all put on impressive displays.

The second field was host to the stage shows including a group of young dancers who brought the show to a close. Brackley Brass Band were also popular with the crowds.

The Queen’s birthday celebrations were relayed via a giant TV screen while the funfair, charity stalls, food and drink sellers and other sideshows proved to be a hit.

The annual event is organised by Banbury Town Council. Mayor of Banbury Gordon Ross said: “Everyone knows there is plenty to do and see at the Banbury and District Show and they come out even when the weather is bad.”

He added: “It was great to see so many people smiling in the rain.”

Councillor Colin Clarke, chairman of the council’s general services committee, said: “A great deal of hard work goes into the planning and organisation of the show and it’s so pleasing to see, despite the poor weather conditions, so many people having a good time.”
