An Anglian Water spokesman said: “We have taken the decision to issue this advice as a precaution following a burst water main in the area, with sample results showing that the water may not be up to our usual high standard.

“You may notice a slight change to the smell of your tap water. This is because we are adding a small amount of extra chlorine to ensure the water remains at a high standard. This change is only temporary. The smell of chlorine will be reduced after boiling.

“We are working with South Northamptonshire Council and Public Health England to provide advice. If you are worried about your health please contact your GP or if urgent contact NHS direct on 111.

“We are working to make sure that the water is up to our normal high standard before advising you otherwise. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused but we insist that your health and safety must come first.”
