Virus expert joins Oxfordshire's hospital trust

During a long career Professor Screaton has researched the immunology of infectious diseases with an interest in dengue and Zika virus infections.

The Trust’s Council of Governors, which includes elected representatives of the public and staff, approved Professor Screaton’s appointment as the University’s nominee on the Board, in line with the Trust’s Constitution.

He has been appointed with effect from September 1 2018 for a term of three years up to August 31, 2021

Prof Screaton received his first degree from the University of Cambridge in 1984 before moving to Oxford to complete his medical studies in 1987. He then completed his training in general internal medicine and obtained a DPhil from Oxford University in 1998.

In 2004, he was appointed to the Chair of Medicine at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College and became Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in 2015. He returned to Oxford as Head of the University’s Medical Sciences Division in October 2017.

Prof Screaton said: “I am delighted and honoured to be asked to serve the people of Oxfordshire by joining the Board. These are challenging times for the NHS both nationally and locally but the partnership between the Trust and the University in teaching and research is a valuable commodity which can benefit both patients and staff.”
