A Tesco van driver has become an overnight internet sensation after a video of him wowing shoppers with an impromptu piano performance went viral.
Tom Moulton, 22, was nagged into performing by his mum as they walked past a piano in a shopping centre.
After being cajoled into showing off his skills, Tom launched into a perfect rendition of the Titanic theme tune leaving shoppers in stunned silence.
A video taken by his mum Jane Wood, 50, was posted on Facebook after his performance last Thursday and has been viewed and shared a staggering 200,000 times.
Tom, who has never had a music lesson and cannot even read music, sat down at the piano while out in Highcross Shopping Centre in Leicester.
The 3.54-minute clip shows Tom initially being reluctant to play and his mum can be heard saying “Just give it a go.”
Incredibly, Tom, who taught himself the piano after copying film soundtracks, performed the entire Titanic theme tune.
Dozens of shoppers can be seen in the footage standing in amazement as Tom, wearing a baseball hat and hoodie, continues to play.
After he finished a crowd had gathered and gave a standing ovation.
Tom, from Barwell, Leicestershire, said: “The attention I’ve had from people since I put the video on Facebook has blown me away.
“I taught myself piano and Titanic was the first piece I learned to play all the way through but I hadn’t played it for five years.
“When my mum saw the piano in the shopping centre she said ‘why don’t you try?’ I didn’t really want to but then just did it to keep mum happy.
“At first I made a few mistakes and mum said ‘start again’ and then it all suddenly came back to me.
“I have never played in public before and I do it all from memory because I can’t read music. It was wonderful when I finished and got a round of applause.
“I’ve been contacted by so many people telling me how much they enjoyed it it’s encouraged me to start playing again.”
“It’s gone a bit mad. I’ve had a lot of people thanking me and telling me it’s made them cry.
“I used to play all the time when I lived at my parents, but since I moved out and got a full time job I haven’t really had the opportunity.
“So it’s lovely to get such a positive reaction.”
