UPDATED: Fire at farmhouse near Woodford Halse

Crews from three counties were called in to tackle the blaze.

The alarm was raised at 9.48am when a fire broke out in a single story building at the Poplar farm, located off Eydon Road.

Two crews from Daventry were first on the scene in breathing apparatus to battle the blaze.

They were later joined by two more fire engines from Northamptonshire, two from Oxfordshire and two from Warwickshire.

Mechanic Andrew Taylor works at a lot down the road from the farm. He said: “We saw a lot of smoke early this morning. It had a really acrid smell.

“It [the fire] was well established in the dwelling. Smoke was coming out of the windows, it was everywhere.”

The fire was brought under control by 11.30am. No one is thought to have been injured in the incident.

Fire station manager Kevin Hornsey, said: “The decisive actions of the first fire crews on the scene brought the fire under control.

“We have been using two crews with breathing apparatus and three fire jets to bring the fire under control and extinguish it. There was also a section of asbestos roofing in the building and we intervened to stop the fire reaching it.”

He added: “There was a bit of difficulty with water and as a result we have been delivering water from a nearby hydrant. We have also been using a tanker to bring up more water.”

The fire service say they believe the fire started in the kitchen of the property, and that the building has been severely damaged by the fire.
